GANESH CHATURTHI SPECIAL MODOK MAKING PROCESS STEP BY STEP AT HOME BY INDIAN FOOD MASTI

MODOK is an Indian sweets popular in states of Maharashtra, Goa and in regions of Konkon in India. The sweet filling on the inside of a MODOK consists of freshly coconut and Jaggery while the outer soft shall is made from rice flour. It is offered to LORD GONESH during Ganesh Chatruthi Puja. It is believed that Ganesha loved MODOK. So these are made in every home celebrating this special occasion. It is offered as bhog during this festival time.  

INGEDIENTS:

For stuffing: (1) Grated Coconut 2 Cups. (2) 1 Cup Jaggery . (3) 1 Teaspoon Crushed Cardamon. (4) 1 Teaspoon Ghee.

For Dough: (1) 2 Cups Water. (2) 1 Teaspoon Ghee. (3) Pinch of Salt. (4) 2 Cups Rice Flour. 

Making time of GANESH CHATURTHI SPECIAL MODOK:

Preparation Time: 20 Minutes.

Cooking Time: 60 Minutes.

Total Time: 80 Minutes.

Step by Step making process of GANESH CHATURTHI SPECIAL MODOK:

(1)  Heat 1 Teaspoon Ghee in a Pan.Add 2 Cups grated fresh coconut and saute it.








(2) Then add 1 cup Jaggery. You can adjust the sweetness according to your taste. Stir and begin to cook on a medium flame. 




(3) The stuffing may turn sticky after a while depending on the kind of Jaggery. Continue to cook until all of the excess moisture evaporates and begins to dry up. Add the crushed cardamon and turn off the flame and set it aside to cool down.


(6) Now in a pan take 2 cups water and add 1 teaspoon ghee and 1 pinch of salt in it.


(7) When it start to boil turn the flame low and add the rice flour and mix well quickly.


(8)  When the flour turns lumpy cover it and remove from the oven and let it steam in the heat for few minutes.

(9) When the mixture cools down transfer the mixture in a bowl. Do not allow it to cool down completely. Kneading dough to smooth texture for MODOK.


(10) Divide the mixture to small parts. It using mold then divide according to the size of your mold. Cover the dough with a damp cloth.

(11) Take a bowl and dip your fingers in water. Using your thumb make a dent in the center and spread the dough in circular motion. Scoop in some filling in to the MODOK.


(12) Squeeze the side and bring the ends together and close it by pressing the top.


(13) Another method of making MODOK.


(14) Heat some water into a pan and place a sieve or a steaming plate and place the turmaric leaves. Now place the MODOKS over the leaves and cover it with a lid. Let it steam for 10-15 minutes.

 

(16) Your MODOK is ready to offer to Lord Ganesha.
